Brno is a year-round destination, but the best months are May to September when the city comes alive outdoors. The Zelný trh square fills with café terraces and the parks around Špilberk Castle are popular for evening walks. July and August see the highest temperatures — typically 25–30°C — and the city is busy with festivals.
Spring is excellent: the Moravian wine country south of the city is at its best in May, and the Formula 1-inspired Brno Circuit (now hosting MotoGP and other motorsport events) draws large crowds to the annual Czech motorcycle Grand Prix, usually held in August. Winter is cold and grey but not harsh by Central European standards; the Christmas market on náměstí Svobody is one of the better ones in Moravia. The Brno International Engineering Fair in October is one of the largest trade fairs in Central Europe and fills the city's hotels — worth knowing if you want to avoid crowds, or if industrial exhibitions are your thing.
