Stodolní Street

Stodolní Street is the bar street of Ostrava and arguably the busiest single nightlife strip in the Czech Republic. About sixty bars, clubs and music venues line a few hundred metres of cobbled street, and Friday and Saturday nights bring crowds from all over Moravia.

It is genuinely local — far from the tourist-saturated Prague pub circuit — and the venues run the full range from beer-hall pubs to underground techno cellars to acoustic blues bars. Highlights include U Sira Frantíka, a long-running pub with cheap beer; Marley's, a reggae bar that has been open since the 1990s; and Plan B, a small live-music venue that books touring Czech and Polish acts. Things start late and run very late.

A story
Until the 1990s Stodolní was a half-derelict alley in a rough part of town. The first bar opened in 1993; today the single short street holds more than sixty pubs, clubs and live-music venues, all packed into a five-minute walk, and is one of the densest concentrations of nightlife in Central Europe.
