The Church of St Nicholas in Malá Strana, completed in 1755, is one of the finest Baroque buildings in Central Europe. The green dome and bell tower dominate the roofline of Malá Strana and are part of the classic Prague silhouette. Designed by the Dientzenhofer family over several generations, the interior is a controlled explosion of gilded stucco, marble, and ceiling frescoes — the nave fresco, depicting scenes from the life of St Nicholas, covers nearly 1,500 square metres.
The church hosts regular evening concerts of classical music; hearing Mozart in this space, in the city where he was adored in his lifetime, is a legitimate Prague experience rather than a tourist gimmick.
