Kampa Island is separated from the mainland of Malá Strana by the Čertovka canal — a narrow mill stream the width of a small river. The island is largely parkland, with long views upriver to Charles Bridge from the waterfront meadow. It is one of the most peaceful spots in central Prague, especially early morning before the river walks get crowded.
The Kampa Museum of modern Central European art occupies the old mill building at the northern end. The southern end has a small children's playground and picnic benches on the grass. Several of David Černý's sculptures are installed along the waterfront. The café and restaurant on the island's edge facing the river are reliable spots for lunch.
