Day Trips

Jelling (15km north) is one of the most important historical sites in Scandinavia: the runestones of Harald Bluetooth and Gorm the Old stand in the churchyard, alongside two large Viking burial mounds. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Kongernes Jelling museum provides context.

Givskud Zoo (20km west) is a large safari park where lions, giraffes, and other animals roam in open-air enclosures. Visitors can drive through in their own car or take the zoo's safari bus — a good half-day or full-day trip.

Vejle (30km east) is the nearest proper town, in a fjord setting with good restaurants and a pedestrian shopping centre. Worth an evening trip for a meal.

Koldinghus (50km east) is one of Denmark's most dramatic medieval castles — founded in the 1200s, burned in 1808, and now restored and housing fine art and silver collections.
