Givskud Zoo, known as Zootopia, is a large safari park 20km west of Billund with over 700 animals in spacious open-range enclosures. The park is organised as a drive-through safari: visitors can take the route in their own car or board the zoo's safari bus. The big cats — lions in a naturalistic savanna enclosure — are the headline attraction, but the park also has giraffes, rhinos, zebras, and a large predator section. The total circuit takes around two hours by car.

There are also on-foot sections with primates, birds of prey, and a children's farm. The zoo has invested significantly in its facilities over the past decade and the enclosures are large enough that animals behave naturally rather than pacing. A good half-day from Billund, easily combined with a visit to Jelling if you have a car. Book tickets online to avoid queues at the gate.
