Odin Tower

Scale model of the lost observation tower that once dominated the city

A 17-metre scale replica of the lost Odinstårnet, on the original site at the edge of the Bolbro forest park. Walking up to it via the old approach road, with information boards explaining the destruction, is a strangely sombre experience for what looks at first like a curiosity. The view from the park is over woodland and city outskirts; the small cafe nearby serves coffee and Danish pastries.

A story
The original Odinstårnet, completed in 1935, was 177 m tall — the second-tallest tower in Europe at the time, modelled on the Eiffel Tower in steel. It was blown up by a small Danish Nazi paramilitary group in December 1944 as a propaganda act, and never rebuilt. A 1/10-scale model stands on the original site as a memorial.
