Odense is no Copenhagen, but it has a solid mid-priced food scene focused around Vintapperstræde and the streets behind Brandts. The local touchstones are smørrebrød (open rye sandwiches) at lunch and Funen cured ham, the island's gastronomic export. Several restaurants on the edge of the old town have one-Michelin-star ambitions; many more do excellent café-style cooking for a fraction of the price.
