AQUA is one of the largest freshwater aquariums in Northern Europe, situated on the shore of the Gudenå just south of the town centre. The exhibits focus entirely on the species of Danish rivers and lakes — pike, perch, eel, salmon, trout, and European otters — in tanks and enclosures designed to replicate their natural habitats as closely as possible.
The otter enclosure is the highlight for most visitors: the animals are highly active and the observation area allows you to watch them swimming underwater. The large pike tanks are also impressive — adult pike are formidable fish, and seeing them full-size and up close gives you a new respect for what is lurking in the lakes outside.
The aquarium is popular with families and worth two to three hours. It sits on a landscaped riverside site that is pleasant to walk through even if you are not going inside.
