Als is a flat, gentle, hedge-and-farmland island ideal for casual cycling. The signed coastal route around the island is about 100 km and can be done over two or three days; for a shorter ride, the loop south to Kegnæs lighthouse and back through Augustenborg is about 50 km and takes in some of the prettiest sea-edge stretches.
Bike hire is available from several shops in Sønderborg and from the campsites along the coast. Roads have decent shoulders and traffic is light away from the bridge approaches. The route is well-marked with the national cycle route signs.
