Hønekilden — The Hen Spring

A small fenced spring in the woods east of town, with a low stone surround and a wooden cover. Hønekilden — the Hen Spring — is one of those minor folk-religious spots that survives because the local story attached to it is more interesting than the place itself.

A short signed walk through pine and beech forest reaches the spring; bring a cup if you want to taste the water (it is cold and faintly mineral). The surrounding woodland is good walking in any season.

A story
Local folklore once held that newborn babies were fetched from Hønekilden — not delivered by storks. A queen visiting the area in the 18th century is supposed to have been told this and given the spring its place in royal anecdote.
