In the woods east of Sønderborg there is, for no obvious reason, a colossal wooden hiking boot. Built as a scouting project at the end of the 1980s, the Boot — Støvlen — is four metres high and has an internal staircase up to an observation deck just above the laces. The interior is a barbecue and shelter area, walls scratched with the names of fifty scout troops.
It is signposted off the road south of Augustenborg and reached by a short forest walk. There is no entry fee, no opening hours, and on most days no one else there. A surprising and slightly silly place; bring sausages.
