The Pärnu Mud Baths building is the emblem of the city's old spa culture. The neoclassical complex near the beach replaced earlier bathhouses and became the respectable face of a simple idea: cover people in local mud, let them rest, and hope the Baltic air does the rest.
Today the building is part of a modern spa hotel, so it is more living resort infrastructure than museum piece. Even if you do not book a treatment, walk past it on the way to the beach. It explains why Pärnu became a resort city rather than just another coastal town.
