Getting There

Tórshavn has no airport — Vágar airport, the only one in the Faroes, sits on the island of Vágar about 50 km west and an hour by bus or car (via the sub-sea tunnel from Streymoy). Atlantic Airways runs daily connections to Copenhagen, plus seasonal flights to Reykjavík, Edinburgh, Bergen, and other northern European cities. SAS also flies from Copenhagen in summer.

The international ferry, Smyril Line's Norröna, calls at Tórshavn from Hirtshals in Denmark (around 36 hours) and Seyðisfjörður in Iceland (around 18 hours). It runs year-round but more frequently in summer. The ferry can carry cars, which is the only way to bring your own vehicle.

From Vágar airport, regular buses run direct to Tórshavn. Rental cars are available at the airport and in town.
