Tórshavn's climate is cool, wet, and windy year-round. Summer (June–August) is the practical season for visitors: long daylight, temperatures around 11–13°C, and the best chance of seeing the islands in the relative clear. Ferries run more frequently and the cultural calendar fills up — the major festival, Ólavsøka (28–29 July), is the biggest event in the Faroese year, with rowing races in the harbour and the national parliament's opening procession.
Winter (November–March) brings short days (six hours of light in December), heavy weather, and sometimes-cancelled flights and ferries. The compensation is the chance of clear, still days that are spectacular for photography, lower prices, and an almost-empty town. The wind is the constant: bring waterproof shell layers regardless of season.
