The oldest bookshop in the Faroe Islands has been in business in the same family for over 150 years. It sits in a black-tarred timber building near Vaglið — the small square at the foot of Tinganes — and stocks Faroese-language books, English-language books about the Faroes, maps, postcards, and a remarkably good selection of music.
Even if you don't read Faroese, it is worth a visit for the atmosphere — creaking floorboards, low ceilings, and shelves packed with the literary output of a country of fewer than 55,000 people.
