Laitila is a small inland town in Finland Proper, on the road between Turku and Rauma. It looks modest at first: fields, low streets, and food-industry buildings. The reason to stop is older and quieter, in the medieval church, Iron Age burial sites, and farm villages that show how this part of southwestern Finland settled around roads, fields, and parish life.
The town centre has St Michael's Church, a late medieval stone church with painted vaults and a 15th-century crucifix. South of town, Kauppila preserves an enclosed farmyard where the buildings still stand in their old setting. North at Untamala, the village road, church, peasant museum, and ancient burial mounds make the best short walk in Laitila.
This is not a headline Finnish destination, but it is a good detour if you care about the country's rural past. Bring a car or bicycle; the strongest sights are spread between the centre, Kauppila, Untamala, and the wooded hill forts.
