Uusikaupunki is a small port town in southwest Finland, founded in 1617 and still shaped by the sea. Its centre has an old wooden-town feel: low houses, quiet streets, a guest harbour, and a history tied to shipbuilding, trade, and the surrounding Vakka-Suomi countryside.
The town is not polished like nearby Naantali, and that is part of its charm. You can wander the old streets, step into the wonderfully absurd Bonk Museum, or head out toward the Bothnian Sea archipelago, where lighthouses, old military islands, and bird waters give the place a wider horizon.
Uusikaupunki is also a working town. Finland's only car factory is here, and the automobile museum beside it is better than you might expect from a town this size.
