Salla National Park protects the fell country east of the resort: old spruce and pine forest, small bogs, ridges shaped by ice, and open viewpoints toward the Russian border. It is not a dramatic alpine park. Its strength is quieter: snow-loaded trees in winter, soft light over the fells in summer, and trails that feel properly remote without needing an expedition.
The easiest access is from the Sallatunturi resort area, where marked routes lead into the park. In winter there are maintained ski and snowshoe routes; in summer, hiking trails reach viewpoints and lean-to shelters. Come prepared for cold, wind, and sudden weather changes even on short outings.
