Sallatunturi is Salla's main resort area, sitting by the fell slopes and national park trails rather than in the parish village itself. It is modest compared with Levi or Ruka, and that is part of the point: the draw is quiet winter travel, not a big resort scene.
Downhill skiing, cross-country routes, snowshoeing, and forest outings all start close by. In summer the same area becomes a practical trailhead for the national park and a good base for travelers who want services without losing the feeling of being far out in Lapland.
