Biarritz has a lively bar scene concentrated around the old port (Port des PĂȘcheurs) and the streets between the market and the seafront. The surf crowd and the old money clientele coexist in a way that makes the town's bar life more varied than it might appear from the grand seafront hotels. The local txakoli (dry Basque white wine) is worth trying alongside pintxos, which appear on most bar menus from mid-afternoon.
