Futuroscope is a theme park near Poitiers dedicated to multimedia, cinematographic futurism, and audiovisual techniques. Opened in 1987, it was one of Europe's first technology-focused parks and the buildings themselves — all sharp angles, glass spheres, and crystalline geometry — are as much of an attraction as the shows inside.
The park's strength is its immersive cinematic experiences: IMAX screens, 4D shows, motion simulators, and projection-mapped spectacles. The night show, projected onto water screens and the park's buildings, is genuinely impressive. A full visit takes a day, or two if you have children who want to repeat favourites.
Futuroscope is just north of Poitiers, about 90 minutes by TGV from Paris. It is not actually in Aquitaine — it sits in the Vienne département — but it makes a good stop on a journey south.
