Sentier Littoral (Coastal Path)

Cliff-edge path from Argelès south to Collioure — one of the best walks on the Cote Vermeille

A signposted coastal footpath that runs from the southern end of Argelès beach (at Le Racou), over the rocky promontory of Cap de l'Abeille, and along the cliffs to Collioure — about 6km, three to four hours, with several places to swim along the way and one or two cliff-top cafes.

The path is well-marked and easy to follow but has steep sections in places; sturdy shoes are essential, and water in summer. The reward is some of the best coastal scenery on this stretch of the Mediterranean — rocky coves, the shifting blue of the sea, dry-stone agricultural terraces, the silhouette of Collioure's church tower at the end. Return options include the local train, a bus, or a paid water-taxi back along the coast.
