Argelès-sur-Mer's food leans Catalan, with plenty of seafood and Mediterranean cooking. The port has the best waterfront restaurants; the old village offers quieter spots with more local character; Spanish influence shows up in the tapas, the anchovies and the use of olive oil. The weekly market on Place de la République (Saturdays) is the place to buy local anchois de Collioure, mountain hams and Roussillon wines.
