This 12th-century abbey church is considered the high point of Plantagenet Gothic style. The chancel vaulting, with its elaborately carved keystones, is unique — the contrast between the soaring, light-filled interior and the thick outer walls that buttress the vaults is particularly striking. A quiet corner of the city, far enough from the tourist trail to feel genuinely discovered.
