The first major work in Plantagenet Gothic style, begun in the mid-12th century. The single nave — unusually wide, vaulted in the Angevin manner with elegant ribbing — feels airy and assured. The spires were rebuilt in flamboyant Gothic in the 16th century, and murals uncovered in the apse in 1980 have significantly rewritten the history of Gothic wall-painting in France. Most of the stained-glass windows in the chancel are medieval originals.
