Angers rewards exploration. The château is the obvious centrepiece, but the city's medieval heritage runs deeper — Plantagenet Gothic architecture appears around almost every corner, from cathedral interiors to hospital wards turned tapestry halls. The celebrated tapestries of the Apocalypse and Jean Lurçat's Song of the World are the finest in France and reason enough to visit.
