Villa Cavrois is one of the great modernist houses of northern France, designed by Robert Mallet-Stevens for textile industrialist Paul Cavrois. Its long yellow-brick lines, roof terraces, built-in furniture, and carefully restored interiors make it a sharp contrast to Lille's Flemish old town.
The villa is in Croix, so it requires a short trip out of central Lille, but architecture-minded travelers should make the effort. It shows the confidence of interwar design at domestic scale: luxurious, rational, geometric, and still surprisingly fresh.
