The original Romanesque cathedral was built in 994-1065 and some features still survive from this period, including the two towers. It was remodelled in the Gothic style between 1331 and 1431 with the addition of two side aisles, a choir and ambulatory, and a ring of chapels. The highlights are the bronze Romanesque door with 35 panels depicting allegorical figures — one of the oldest surviving examples in Germany — and stained glass from around 1410, among the earliest figurative stained glass windows in the world.
