Augsburg's synagogue is one of the city's most striking early 20th-century buildings, completed in 1917 with Art Nouveau forms and oriental details. It is also one of the few major synagogue buildings in Germany to survive the Nazi period mostly intact.
The building is still used by the Jewish congregation and also houses the Jewish Museum Augsburg Swabia. Guided tours are the best way to see the interior and understand both the architecture and the city's Jewish history.
