Rathaus

Mannerist masterpiece with a stunning gilded Renaissance hall

Built by Elias Holl in 1615-1620, the Augsburg Rathaus is one of the most impressive Mannerist buildings in Germany. The six-storey facade dominates the Rathausplatz and the magnificently restored Goldener Saal (Golden Hall) on the upper floor features an elaborate wood coffered ceiling and wall paintings — one of the most important secular Renaissance interiors north of the Alps.
