The Franz Liszt Museum occupies the house where the composer spent his final days in 1886, close to the Wagner world that dominates Bayreuth's musical identity. It is a small museum, but the scale suits the subject: personal objects, portraits, manuscripts, and the atmosphere of a late-life residence.
For music lovers it is an obvious companion to Haus Wahnfried and the Festspielhaus. Even if Wagner brought you to town, Liszt adds another strand to Bayreuth's nineteenth-century story, especially through his family and artistic ties to the Wagner circle.
