Lindau's Old Town Hall is a late Gothic building from the 15th century, with a painted facade added in the 19th century that depicts scenes from the city's history. It is one of the more exuberant buildings on the island — the frescoes are bold and the stepped gable is characteristic of the region — and it stands at the heart of the old town near the main pedestrian street.
The building ceased to function as a town hall when Lindau was incorporated into Bavaria and is now used for civic events and exhibitions. The facade is the main thing to see; there is usually public access to the ground floor, but hours vary. Even seen from outside it is worth the short detour from the harbour.
