Ammergauer Maxbräu is the brewpub and restaurant attached to the Maximilian Hotel at the southern end of the village. The beer is brewed on site — a Helles, a Weissbier, and seasonal specials — served at copper-clad tables that line the room.
The kitchen leans Bavarian with modern touches: roast suckling pig, schnitzel of free-range pork, large salads for the lunch trade. The beer garden behind the building is the most pleasant outdoor seating in the village. Service is brisk and the prices are higher than the village average, but the beer is the real draw.
