Getting There

By train. Oberammergau is the end of a single-track branch line from Murnau, in turn reached from Munich in about an hour. The full trip takes 1h45 to 2h with one change, with the Bayern-Ticket a good-value option for the day. The station sits a five-minute walk south of the village centre across the Ammer.

By road. From Munich the drive takes about 90 minutes on the A95 motorway to Eschenlohe, then the B23 through Ettal. From the west the B23 runs in from Augsburg via the Ammergau valley. Parking in the village is paid and limited in summer; large free lots sit at the edge.

By air. The nearest airports are Munich (95 km) and Innsbruck (70 km). Both have direct buses or trains as far as Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where you change for Oberammergau. Salzburg (175 km) is a longer transfer but useful for some itineraries. There is no airport shuttle service to the village itself.
