Eating Out

Oberammergau is a village, not a gourmet town. What it does well is honest Bavarian cooking — pork roast, dumplings, Schweinshaxe, Käsespätzle — in a handful of long-standing inns and beer-hall restaurants. Most places are within a few minutes' walk of the parish church. There are a couple of Italian options for variety, and an in-house brewery at the Maximilian. Reserve in the Passion Play year and on weekends in summer; mid-week off-season you can usually just walk in.
