Oberammergau is small enough to walk end to end in twenty minutes — the entire historic centre, parish church, museum, and Passion Play theatre all sit within easy walking distance. There are no taxis in the village. The two cable cars (Laber and Kolben) start a short walk from the edge of town.
Regional buses run from the bus station next to the train station to Ettal, Linderhof, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Schloss Neuschwanstein. If you stay overnight you receive a free guest card (KönigsCard or AmmergauerAlpen card depending on accommodation) covering local buses and several cable cars. A bike rental shop on Bahnhofstrasse hires e-bikes that make the climb up the valley to Linderhof manageable.
