Kulturbahnhof

The old Kassel Hauptbahnhof — once the city's main railway station, now relegated to a regional stop after long-distance trains moved to Wilhelmshöhe — has been reborn as the Kulturbahnhof. The handsome 19th-century terminus building now houses a cinema, the Caricatura cartoon museum, a music club, and a series of bars and restaurants in the old waiting rooms.

In front of the building stands Jonathan Borofsky's iconic Man Walking to the Sky. The square is a good place for a coffee and a look at one of the city's most famous documenta survivors before catching a tram into the old town.

A story
Jonathan Borofsky's *Man Walking to the Sky* — a figure striding up a 25-metre pole at a 60-degree angle — has stood in front of the old Kassel Hauptbahnhof since documenta 9 in 1992. It is a quiet portrait of the wishfully transcendent commuter.
