Juist Airfield

A small grass airstrip in the middle of the island, the Juist airfield handles a handful of small aircraft a day — light tourist flights from the mainland and the air-mail / supply runs that the larger East Frisian islands no longer rely on. The terminal is essentially a hut with a windsock and a coffee machine.

The simplest way for a visitor to use the airfield is to book a 30-minute scenic flight over the island and out across the Wadden Sea: operators based at the strip will take two or three passengers up in a Cessna or similar and circle Juist, Memmert, and the eastern end of Borkum. From the air you get the long, thin shape of the island that nothing on the ground really conveys.
