Things to Do

Juist is one long beach with a village in the middle. The point of being here is to walk or cycle the seventeen kilometres of sand from one end of the island to the other, or to wade out onto the mudflats of the Wadden Sea with a guide and look back at the dunes from the seabed. There are no cars and there is no rush.

What the island does have, beyond the beach itself, is a small lighthouse, a freshwater lake (the only one on the East Frisian Islands), an exposed historical farmstead at the western tip, a small grass airstrip, and a bird-rich nature reserve at the eastern end that runs out to a low marsh and then to sea.
