Halberg Castle

Halberg Castle sits on a wooded hill east of the city centre, overlooking the Saar river. The current building dates from the 19th century and has an eclectic neo-Gothic character. The grounds are open to the public and offer good walking through the forested hillside, with views back over Saarbrücken.

The castle itself houses the Saarländischer Rundfunk (Saarland Broadcasting), so the interior is not generally accessible. The surrounding parkland and the walk up through the trees make it a pleasant afternoon escape from the city. The views from the top of the hill extend across the Saar valley to the French border.
