Saarland Museum — Modern Gallery

The Modern Gallery of the Saarland Museum is the main art museum in Saarbrücken, housing an impressive collection of 19th- and 20th-century German and French art that reflects the region's cultural position between the two countries. The permanent collection includes works by German Expressionists, French Impressionists, and a strong section on art from the Saar region itself.

The museum occupies a building on the Saar riverbank and is regularly supplemented by travelling exhibitions of contemporary art. The collection is particularly strong on Expressionism and post-war European painting. One of the better regional art museums in Germany; a serious collection that surprises visitors expecting something more modest.
