One of the more reliable places in Chemnitz for straightforward Saxon food — Sauerbraten with potato dumplings, roast pork knuckle, and seasonal game dishes depending on the time of year. The room is plain and honest, the portions are large, and the local beer is on draught. It gets busy at lunchtime with workers from the surrounding offices and shops.
It's not trying to be anything other than what it is: a proper Gaststätte where you can eat well without ceremony. Booking is worth considering in the evening; at lunch you can usually walk in. The bread basket and the soup of the day make a reasonable light alternative if the main courses feel ambitious.
