Ratskeller Chemnitz

Classic German cooking in the vaulted cellar beneath the old town hall

The Ratskeller occupies the basement of the old Rathaus on the Markt — the kind of setting that makes a roast pork and a beer feel historically appropriate. The menu is German and Saxon, with good versions of the standards: pork dishes, game in season, dumplings, and a solid selection of German and Saxon wines alongside the beer.

It tends to fill up on market days and during the Christmas market, so booking is sensible then. At other times it's reliably open and reliably good — not a destination in itself, but a very decent place to eat if you're already in the city centre and want something with a bit more character than the surrounding lunch spots.
