The ruins above the Maara cave are the remains of a small late Roman or Byzantine fortress guarding the Aggitis valley. Only low wall sections survive, but the position explains why the site mattered: it watched the routes through this part of eastern Macedonia.
It is a short add-on if you are already visiting the cave or the Aggitis gorge, not a stand-alone destination from Drama.
