Getting There

Kalambaka is about 340 kilometres northwest of Athens and 230 kilometres southwest of Thessaloniki. By train, there are direct services from Athens (Larissa station) via the mainline to Palaiofarsalos, where a branch line continues to Kalambaka. The journey takes around four hours. From Thessaloniki, change at Larissa. The Kalambaka railway station is in the centre of town.

By bus (KTEL), there are daily services from Athens (Liossion bus terminal) that take roughly four and a half hours. From Thessaloniki, buses go to Trikala (the nearest large town, 20 km away), with frequent local buses onward to Kalambaka. Trikala is the main transport hub for the region — if you cannot find a direct service, routing via Trikala nearly always works.

By car from Athens, take the E75 motorway north toward Larissa and then the E92 west toward Trikala and Kalambaka. The drive takes three to four hours depending on traffic.
