Saint Therapon Church

The Church of Saint Therapon is the most imposing landmark on the Mytilini waterfront, its tall bell tower and large neo-Byzantine dome visible from the ferry as you approach the harbour. Built in the late 19th century in a style that blends Byzantine and neoclassical elements, it is dedicated to the city's patron saint and holds important religious relics. The interior is richly decorated with icons and frescoes in the post-Byzantine tradition. The church faces the south harbour promenade, and the square in front of it is a natural meeting point — market stalls set up here on Sunday mornings, and the outdoor cafés around it fill up early.
