Egremni Beach

A long strip of pale sand and pebbles below sheer white cliffs on the western coast, between Porto Katsiki and Kathisma. Egremni is wilder than its neighbours — fewer facilities, more space — and after the 2015 earthquake the easy access of the old staircase was lost.

The beach is now reached either by a steep rebuilt path of around 350 steps or by boat from Nydri or Vasiliki. The water is breathtaking and the cliffs feel even more dramatic for the relative isolation.

A story
A magnitude 6.5 earthquake in November 2015 brought down a huge section of the cliff above Egremni, destroying the long staircase that used to lead down to the beach. For years it was reachable only by boat; a new path was eventually rebuilt, though access remains harder than it once was.
