The most reliable old-school taverna on the main square, Galaxias has been run by the same family for decades and serves the dishes you came to Metsovo to eat: grilled Metsovone, kontosouvli, the local pies, lamb with lemon and oregano, and a thick chickpea soup in winter.
The dining room is unassuming, with wooden chairs, blue gingham tablecloths and an open fire in cold weather. Service is brisk and friendly. Order the house red, which is Katogi Averoff, and don't skip the rice pudding.
