Metsovo has a four-season climate, and each season is very distinct. Winter (December–March) is cold, snowy and beautiful: the slate roofs whitened with snow, wood smoke rising from every chimney, Greek skiers up at the small Karakoli resort above town. Hotels are full at weekends and over Greek New Year; book ahead.
Spring (April–June) is the prettiest season — the wildflowers in the Pindos meadows are extraordinary, the hiking is just opening up, and the town is quiet. Summer (July–August) brings most of the international tourists; the temperatures stay pleasantly cool (mid-20s in the daytime), and weekends can be busy, especially over Greek holidays.
Autumn (September–November) is excellent: the beech forests on the surrounding hills turn an extraordinary copper, hunting season opens, and the kitchens of the village come back into their own.
